Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance provisions, charges, and your obligations related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Vehicle Rental Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Cardigan, you must be at least 21 years old; age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with extra fees applicable for drivers under 25. You are required to possess a valid full driving license suitable for the vehicle category, held for the duration stated in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of your current address must be provided, along with payment details and a security deposit. Additional criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Dartford office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance, along with a security deposit, is usually payable upon picking up the vehicle. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, you are required to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed by both parties. Please return the vehicle in the same condition it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as when it was picked up; refueling charges will apply if it is returned with less fuel. Late returns may result in additional fees, so please inform us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. You are responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during the rental period, along with an administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance. You can find comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to help lower your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless covered by additional insurance. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms falls under your responsibility, regardless of insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle may not be used for any unlawful activities. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or any dangerous actions. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting to others or allowing unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle must only be used for its intended purpose and within passenger or weight limits. Driving outside the agreed geographical area requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Cardigan Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is capped at the amount paid for the rental within the last 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
10. Updates to Terms
Cardigan reserves the right to amend these Terms at any time. Changes take effect as soon as they are posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
